Breathe Damn You
This blog is for dogs and their owners in Gulfport, Florida. The purpose of the bolg is to list businesses who are dog friendly. In addition, we want to list any incidents of dog bites or problem dogs or owners. However, we definitely do not want to post any rude or nasty comments. Gulfport is a beautiful and amazing community and extremely dog friendly. It is up to all of us to keep it clean and safe and be responsible dog owners.

Breathe Damn You
April 15 (UPI) -- A week-old baby in Florida was killed by a pit bull while his 16-year-old mother slept, unaware of what was going on, police said.
ReplyDeleteThomas Carter Jr. was sleeping with his mother in their home in New Port Richey, The St. Petersburg Times reported. But Nichole Koezeno only realized the newborn had been mauled when she was wakened by a friend knocking on the door Wednesday morning.
Kevin Doll, a spokesman for the Pasco County sheriff, said Koezeno was being tested for drugs. The baby's father, who lives with Koezeno, said he fed the infant before he left for work at 5 a.m.
The pit bull, named Sidon, was scheduled to be killed Thursday. After mauling the child, the dog got out and attacked another dog chained outside.
Denise Hilton, manager of Pasco County Animal Services, said Sidon was a male that had not been neutered, which may have contributed to the animal's aggressive behavior. She said Sidon may also have had rabies.
"This animal should have never been allowed access to the room where this infant was," Hilton said. "We have to protect children from animals being animals."
Any animal is capable of this, including pit bulls and therapy labs. A cat can also kill.

This kind of thing happens way too much, and it is completely avoidable with basic pet knowledge and training.
I wish someone had of called me or any other trainer in their area, for advise.

I was bitten about a year ago (during one of the regatta’s off the beach) in front of the yellow house on Beach Blvd. and Dupont Street. We believe it was the german Shepard that bit me. He lives in Green house on the other corner-Valentine’s house and being walked by her two little girls. I see they usually have a muzzle on him now. I did not report it to the police, but I did let them know of the incident as I knew the girls wouldn’t say anything. The dogs (they have two, a large white dog and a shepard) are a lot of muscle for those two girls to handle and they had to make their pen higher as they were jumping over it when people would pass by the house. ReplyDeleteOn January 16, 2010, I was on my everyday morning walk on 13th Ave S between Hull and 60th St S. There was a young couple pushing a stroller with their baby. The man had a medium size dog on a leash. Somehow the catch on the leash came open and the dog got loose and bit my right leg; bitting through jeans and into the calf muscle. It happened so fast I had no time to stop it.
ReplyDeleteI went to the ER and was treated and given a tetanus shot. I filled out a dog bite form at the hospital.
